My mother always told me that video games were a gateway drug to realms of apes named Donkey and invaders that were possibly from space. My mom was of course right, because I’ve been tripping on retro Atari games for way too long now according to the leaderboard on my emulation programs. Thank the Triforce that those are just games however. Because the last thing I’d ever want, is for Pac-Man to sample my hand like he does in the upcoming game-movie of Pixels:

As kids in the 1980s, Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), Will Cooper (Kevin James), Ludlow Lamonsoff (Josh Gad), and Eddie “The Fire Blaster” Plant (Peter Dinklage) saved the world thousands of times – at 25 cents a game in the video arcades. Now, they’re going to have to do it for real. In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens discover video feeds of classic arcade games and misinterpret them as a declaration of war, they attack the Earth, using the video games as the models for their assaults — and now-U.S. President Cooper must call on his old-school arcade friends to save the world from being destroyed by PAC-MAN, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Centipede, and Space Invaders. Joining them is Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten (Michelle Monaghan), a specialist supplying the arcaders with unique weapons to fight the aliens.

Pixels looks predictable and stupid in all the right ways so far for me. It’s a summer blockbuster dressed up in video game clothing, and dammit, I’m falling for it. And that’s based primarily on the fantastic visual effects I’m seeing so far. Pixels hits July 24, with Chris Colombus playing a game of director with a cast of players that includes Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage and Brian Cox.

I… kinda wish it didn’t show that enter the mothership part, would have been great to see in the cinema… but still looks fun nonetheless!
