Extras-750-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • Dear Americans, you’re eating Vegemite wrong. Don’t believe me? Then how about you let Wolverine explain it to you.

  • I would have liked to have given you guys a review of Tomorrowland this week, but thanks to an email communication snafu, I found myself on the opposite side of the city from where the press screening was actually taking place on Monday. So now unfortunately,  you’re going to have to go with some international reviews… which are actually not looking good. According to writer Damon Lindelof and star George Clooney though, some of those bad vibes may just be because people are cynics.

Lindelof: “[You don’t] have to love everything — obviously, we have to open ourselves up to some level of criticism. But when we all took this on, people were saying, “You can’t make an original movie anymore, and you certainly can’t make an interesting Disney movie. If you make a Disney movie named Tomorrowland, it’s gotta have Space Mountain, and you basically have to sell tickets to the amusement park.

Now, I don’t want to start a war, but as a self-identified fanboy, I think that with this movie, it’s gonna be really hard for fanboys to say, “I really enjoyed this movie. It made me feel good.” God forbid you tweeted something like that! What would happen to you? You’d lose your readership! “You sold out!””

Clooney: “Listen, we’re at sort of a cynical time in society. Don’t ever read comments on anything! People can live anonymously, and I honestly think that when they were talking about freedom of speech in 1787, the theory was that you had to own your speech. It had to belong to you, and you actually had to take some responsibility for it. Now you can just sit alone and say horrible things, and it becomes fashionable to be shitty to people. Now people will come up to me, thinking they’re keeping it real, and they say, “I hated you in that last movie!” And I’ll look at them and go, “Well, I think those extra 20 pounds look good on you.” It’s become a much more cynical time, a time when people think its fun to only be negative.”

  • Poster of the day: Time Bandits

  • Not a fan of Jared Leto’s new Joker design? Then how about this incredible version (based on the”Death Of The Family” storyline) created by Hollywood make-up effects legend Rick Baker?

  • Rapidly rising actress Andrea Riseborough (Birdman, The Oblivion) certainly has something to crow about. The English actress has been cast to play the villainous Top Dollar in the upcoming reboot of The Crow. If her character sounds familiar, it’s because that was the same name of the villain in the original Brandon Lee movie, except there the character was played by Michael Wincott. Last time I checked, Andrea Riseborough was the very opposite of Michael Wincott, so this should be interesting.
  • Back To the Future is real, you hear me! Steve-O and Billy Zane said so!

  • Looks like Khal Drogo either wants to be magnificent or nothing at all. It’s being reported that Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa has exited the star studded Magnificent Seven remake as he wasn’t happy that his secondary villain character didn’t have much to do in the movie. But as the movie loses one small bad guy though, it gains its big one in Peter Sarsgaard, who has signed on to play “Bartholomew Bogue, a robber baron whose hired thugs kill the husband of a woman who hires a group of mercenaries to take back the small town that has become Bogue’s stomping grounds.”

Sarsgaard will be joining a helluva cast that includes Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Haley Bennett, Byung-Hun Lee and Matt Bomer.

  • Hey, David Blaine! Harrison Ford has seen first-hand what the Jedi can do with The Force, so he’s not impressed by your cheap parlour tri-Okay, maybe he was impressed. Very impressed. And shocked. And had the most hilarious reaction.
