For a while a lot of people dismissed Keanu Reeves as an actor that was only good at imitating anything that required a blank look, like wood, but I have to say I’ve often enjoyed him in his roles. Recently he received a lot of praise for his absolutely incredible role as hitman John Wick, a movie that proved America can compete with its Asian counterparts in action style. Sure the role didn’t require him to go all Shakespeare on us or actually say more than 15 lines – “You killed my dog” – but he really carried the part well and looked very good killing Russian gangsters. This time he’s shaking things up a bit by playing the victim in Eli Roth’s Knock Knock.

Reeves plays a happy husband and father who is visited one night in what looks like a dream sequence I’ve had since my teenage years. Two rather beautiful women (played by Lorenza Izzo, Ana De Armas) appear on his doorstep asking for assistance and of course he lets them in and, well, goes beyond the call of neighbourly duty. Perhaps he misunderstood the idea of Father’s Day… What then takes place is his own personal nightmare as the girls play cat and mouse with him in his own home, something Trevor likes to do with his Cornflakes every morning. Looks like heaps of fun though I think most fathers would be happier with a pair of socks.

Knock Knock also stars Ana De Armas, Aaron Burns, Ignacia Allamand and Colleen Camp and was first screened at the Sundance Film festival. Release dates haven’t been given just yet but we’ll keep you posted.
