It was late last year when Showtime announced they’d not only be reviving Twin Peaks but that many of the original actors and director David Lynch would be returning as well; fans of the show rejoiced. However early last month word dropped that Lynch was pulling out of the revival because of budgetary constraints; fans of the show (as well as the actors) were dismayed. Now, fans of the show, it’s time to rejoice once more!

Welcome to Twin Peaks have the highlights from a recent Twin Peaks panel at Crypticon in Seattle that featured original, and returning, actresses Sherilyn Fenn (Audrey Horne) and Sheryl Lee (Laura Palmer) – and they’re some highlights.

Firstly, David Lynch is on board again. And not only have they resolved the budgetary issues that left to him wanting to withdraw from the project to his satisfaction, the episode count has doubled. No longer consisting of 9 episodes, we’re going to be treated to 18 episodes of clean mountain air, cherry pie and damn good coffee… and a murder mystery, dancing midgets (especially for Kervyn) and other weird goings-on.

Secondly, composer Angelo Badalamenti, who was responsible for much of the music in the original series and notably its haunting theme, will also compose new music for the expanded series.

And finally that cherry pie I mentioned earlier has to come from somewhere, and it’s going to come from Twede’s Cafe in North Bend, Washington. You might know it better as the original Double R Diner set from the show, as the cafe is going to be restored to its more well-known look. Guess we know where some of that budget money is going.

Those were the highlights, but you can catch the full panel discussion below:

Finally we might discover who killed Laura Palmer the way we were meant to. So, fans of the show, are you rejoicing?
