Irrespective of which side of the story you believe when it comes to all the on- and off-set drama surrounding Fantastic Four director Josh Trank (and how that may have led to him losing his job on a Star Wars movie), I think it’s time people realized something: The cast may not look the way you want them to, and it may be closer to Marvel’s “Ultimate” version of the Fantastic Four than the traditional comic book, but I’ll be damned if this still doesn’t look a good proper sci-fi superhero story!

Trank’s already given us a great one of those in Chronicle and based on what we’ve seen from the trailers, he may just be going two for two. Now here’s another TV spot, offering us a further look at the flick, but this time focusing on the powers of the titular four heroes played by Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell. And they look… well, fantastic!

This TV spot also injects some levity into what has been a pretty serious marketing campaign up until now, which just makes me even more excited to see this now.

An origin story said to be inspired largely by the “Ultimate Fantastic Four” comics (the first arc of which was written by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Millar with Joe Kubert illustrating), Fantastic Four offers a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team. The story centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

Fantastic Four is written/produced by Simon Kinberg (X-Men franchise) and also stars Toby Kebbell as Victor Von Doom, Reg E. Cathey as Dr. Franklin Storm, and Tim Blake Nelson as Harvey Eldar (aka The Mole Man in the comics). It is scheduled for release on August 7, 2015.

  1. Saw him in the beginning and had to check it out. So Tim Blake Nelson went from The Leader to the Mole Man. Don’t know if that’s an upgrade or not
