There are few modern TV shows that experienced a fall from grace quite as badly as Heroes did in its initial run. It’s first season was fun and exciting with mesmerising characters, lots of geek street cred and an intriguing plot. A plot that pretty much wrapped itself up at the end of the debut season. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the show.

Obviously spurred on by high ratings and lots of fan buzz, NBC and creator Tim Kring kept spinning out lame stories to keep the show around for… Actually, I’m not even sure how long it was on for – nor do I feel compelled to find out – because I checked out of this superhero milking session at the end of the lacklustre second season. Eventually Heroes did end though. But just like the comic book characters it drew so much inspiration from, nothing ever truly stays dead.

Following suit with so many other recent revivals of older TV series, Heroes Reborn is taking the event series route with a limited episode count, which – as history has proven – is clearly a good thing for this franchise. We’ve seen very little of this new Heroes Reborn thus far though, having to contend with just the most teaser-ish of teaser trailers. But now NBC have finally unveiled a full trailer which starts off asking where all the heroes have gone and then introduces us to our new cast as well as a couple of familiar faces.

Except nothing I’m seeing here looks particularly exciting. Maybe a show like Heroes Reborn just doesn’t cut it anymore in a post-Avengers world. Either that or I’m just being an old fart again. Check it out below and decide for yourself.

The supernatural phenomenon begins again with a fresh crop of inspiring heroes who take on the ultimate struggle between those with extraordinary abilities and those with nefarious motives to hunt and harness their powers. Epic adventures await these newly empowered allies as they cross paths with some of the original characters, unlocking the mysterious fate of the universe and their place within it.

Okay, I will give it props for a cool Metallica cover though.

Heroes Reborn stars Zachary Levi, Robbie Kay, Danika Yarosh, Judith Shekoni, Kiki Sukezane, Henry Zebrowski and Gatlin Green, while old series regulars Jack Coleman, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Masi Oka and Greg Grunberg are all set to reprise their respective roles in varying degrees. It is scheduled to debut on NBC on September 24.

At least it looks like they’ve brought cool future Hiro back instead of the lame Hiro who always forgot how to use his powers. Should be entertaining at the very least (I hope).
