Fear-The-Walking-Dead

As fantastic as the last two seasons of The Walking Dead has been, there’s no denying the fact that the gruesome zombies are rarely ever truly terrifying anymore. They’ve become such a common occurrence that at one stage cute 10-year old blond girls were dispatching them with pocket knives as part of their daily chores. I have a feeling that things are going to be different for Fear The Walking Dead though.

The the upcoming companion series to AMC’s smash hit comic book adaptation will be telling a part of the story that we’ve never seen on screen or in the comics: Just how did this great big zombie apocalypse actually start? In The Walking Dead, Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes was our POV character, and he ended up in a coma soon after encountering his first zombie, and by the time he woke up everything had already gone to hell in a hand basket.

With Fear the Walking Dead though, we’ll be following a brand new set of characters in metropolitan Los Angeles who have no idea what a zombie apocalypse even is yet. But what the totally oblivious and unprepared populace think is merely a flu epidemic soon takes over their entire lives, allowing us to bear witness to society’s very bloody dismantling. And based on the full first trailer for the show, unveiled at Comic-Con this weekend past, that societal downfall is going to be hectic! There’s no unyielding lawman, no kitana swinging badass, no crossbow-wielding killer to be found here. These are just ordinary people who have no idea what’s coming. We obviously do, which makes the tension pretty intense though! Check it out below.

Fear the Walking Dead stars Kim Dickens as Madison, Cliff Curtis as Travis, Frank Dillane as Nick, Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alicia, Elizabeth Rodriguez as Liza, Ruben Blades as Daniel, Mercedes Mason as Ofelia and Lorenzo James Henrie as Chris. It is scheduled to debut in the US on August 23, and will probably follow on local screens soon thereafter.
