The VIKINGS are back in this trailer for season 4

There’s no secret of my love of the History series Vikings, a show that caught many off guard when it premiered back in 2013. I am delighted that the show is still going strong and instead of losing momentum is picking up pace in both story and in character growth – season four looks to all be about character exposition.

This year’s Comic-Con has permanently messed up the already dark and twisted mind of Kervyn with some truly great trailers, from Suicide Squad to Batman vs. Superman. But while it may be a good time to be a comic book nerd, it’s also great time for a fan of Vikings as the series got a new trailer for the upcoming fourth season.

I’ve always loved the cast of Vikings, in particular the very intense Travis Fimmel so I was happy to hear where his character would be headed in 2016. (Mild spoiler ahead) Towards the end of season three Fimmel’s character Ragnar is gravely wounded and practically enters the gates of Valhalla which causes all kinds of Viking madness, commenting on this Fimmel told EW:

“He’s got very close to death. A lot of this year is his fascination with death. Like Odin, who hung himself to feel how it felt to be dead.”

Those crazy Viking Gods. The end of season three threw some viewers for a six (my brother for example) and some fan-favourite characters like Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard) were left standing on some rather thin ice –  ice that may just break – and Ragnar’s own brother is being a very naughty boy. Have a watch of the new trailer for yourself to see how where it could all be headed.

That is looking great! It’s good to see that even though the budget has increased quite a bit they are keeping the story on similar groundings of season one; betrayal, family and becoming a legend.

One of the reasons I liked season three so much is that other characters shared more of the limelight; for example Alexander Ludwig who plays Ragnar’s son, Bjorn. Speaking at the same session he was asked what we can expect from his character in season four and other than working out his complex relationship with his father we can also expect some walks in the woods and some bears, apparently…

“He decides to figure out his life and go out to the woods, while he’s there, this bear starts stalking him. Ironically, the bear had a bigger resumé than anyone else on the set. It was the ‘Anchorman’ bear. I was starstruck.”

Boats? Check. Vikings rampaging and pillaging? Check. The bear from Anchorman? Check… wait what? I have to say after watching the trailer I am even more excited for Vikings to return, which should be in early 2016.

I’m still struggling with Season 3. It is really slow and unengaging.

It is quite slow till about mid season. Then all shit breaks loose. Still the best battle scene they have done towards the end (lasts about 3 episodes).

It always makes me laugh when people complain about spoilers for this show. We all know how it ends. 😛
