Last year’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot was a movie I, very surprisingly, thoroughly enjoyed because it was just plain fun (catch our review here). The upcoming sequel is going to include a host of new characters, notably long-time Turtles foes Bebop and Rocksteady, as well as Turtle ally the violent and unstable vigilante Casey Jones – who’ll be portrayed by Arrow‘s Stephen Amell.
He recently spoke to IGN at Comic-Con about how the character’s origin will differ this time around from what fans have seen before:
It’s certainly not your father’s or your younger self’s Casey Jones, but that’s because we meet him at a very different time in his development. He is not the Casey Jones that a lot of comic fans have come to know and love.
He is a guy with a job that lives in New York and loves hockey. When things go awry, [and] when he goes through the normal methods of what someone would do when they’re [a] law-abiding citizen and he’s met with laughter and scorn… he decides to take things into his own hands.
His previous two standard origin stories have him donning the hockey mask either after watching his family murdered and being savagely beaten by the Purple Dragon gang as a teenager, or as a product of watching far too many bad cop shows. Thankfully the latter doesn’t happen in real life, or Darryn would wear a Batman outfit and Nick would go through a lot of glitter.
He also mentioned to Wendy Mericle (executive producer on Arrow):
By the way, if Oliver needs to do any new fighting this year, I would suggest a baseball bat or a hockey stick, because I am now proficient!
I just want to see him say, “Bebop and Rocksteady… you have failed this sewer!”
We’ve also seen a couple of the vehicles that’ll be making an appearance in the sequel, but the actor also posted a picture on his Facebook page of just what he’ll be driving – which (as per Slashfilm) I’ve learned is a Dodge Hellcat Challenger. And I want one.
Now, according to Darryn, I have to say “GOONGALA!” or I will “know pain”.

I’m surprised you liked the TMNT movie. My daughter enjoys it and I have to watch it often but I really can’t stand the movie. The dialogue is terrible and Megan Fox makes it worse. The only thing going for it is the decent combat/action scenes.

It really is a kids movie, and I felt like a big kid watching it. Laughed my ass off, the action was great, and it didn’t overstay its welcome. It’s short enough that you don’t really notice how paper thin the whole plot is.

Nope, I enjoyed the dialogue but that doesn’t change the fact the plot was paper thin. 🙂

I liked the movie! It brought back old memories of watching the show on TV when I was a kid!
