Alejandro G. Iñárritu won about big as you can get last year with Birdman, a movie that didn’t just net him 4 Oscars, but also effectively relaunched Michael Keaton’s career (sorry, Need for Speed, you tried). Leonardo DiCaprio’s career is certainly in no need of relaunching. He’s been hovering up in the stratosphere for some time now on the backs of such outstanding flicks as Wolf of Wall Street, Django Unchained, Inception, Shutter Island and more.

So when it was announced that Iñárritu and DiCaprio would not only be getting together for their respective next project, The Revenant, but also adding superstar Tom Hardy into the mix just for good measure, we sure as hell got excited. And to borrow one of DiCaprio’s famous lines, if that announcement had our curiosity, The Revenant now has our attention after the incredible first trailer for the gritty western tale dropped over the weekend, showing off savage battles, powerful performances and some more of that breathtaking cinematography that won Birdman so much gold.

Check it out below.

Inspired by true events, THE REVENANT is an immersive and visceral cinematic experience capturing one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption. THE REVENANT is directed and co-written by renowned filmmaker, Academy Award® winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Birdman, Babel).

The Revenant also stars Domhnall Gleeson and Will Poulton. It is scheduled for release on December 25, because nothing says Christmas quite like Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy going to war.

Glass went looking for those who left him to die, in reality.

If memory serves, he spent six weeks crawling to safety after his companions thought he was dead.

    Should I watch the video?
