I can still clearly remember when I started putting together the clues that Marvel were making a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and immediately flipped out about it while everybody else around here was like, “Who?”. And now everybody knows who the Guardians are! Hell, they’re even getting their very own Saturday morning cartoon on Disney XD!
We’ve seen pics of the Guardians animated series before, but thanks to IGN we now have our first proper look at it courtesy of a short promo video. It’s admittedly very short, but gives a nice little taste of the tone and animation style we can expect from the show.
ComingSoon have also added the series synopsis – which I’ve never seen before – which explains what the main story of this animated show will be.
“Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy” follows the newly-formed team who finds a strange artifact keyed only to the DNA of Peter Quill. Upon opening it, Quill unleashes a treasure map leading to a powerful weapon known as the Cosmic Seed which is capable of giving birth to the next universe. It’s up to the Guardians to find, protect and ultimately destroy the Cosmic Seed in order to keep it out of the hands of those who would abuse its power, from galactic big boss Thanos, to the conniving brothers the Collector and the Grandmaster, to a resurrected Ronan, to the ultimate trickster, Loki, in order to save the universe.
That actually looks and sounds pretty cool, and appears to be delving straight into the cosmic-styled stories that made the comic such a fantastic read for years. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for this!
Guardians of the Galaxy will feature the voices of Will Friedle (Boy Meets World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Trevor Devall (Johnny Test) as Rocket Raccoon, Vanessa Marshall (Star Wars Rebels) as Gamora, David Sobolov (Transformers: Prime) as Drax the Destroyer, Kevin Michael Richardson (The Cleveland Show) as Groot and James Arnold Taylor (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) as Yondu and the telepathic dog, Cosmo.
A special sneak preview of the show will air on Disney XD on September 5, while the official premiere will happen on September 26.
