Agent Cruise, your mission should you choose to accept it, is to hit the box office and reach the number one spot. Oh, you’ve already done that? Good job Tom Cruise! Unlike several other summer tentpole movies with big, aging names attached to them, Mission Impossible 5: Rogue Nation did gangbuster numbers at the box office.
With an opening weekend of $56 million, Cruise proved his star power yet again and reversed a trend that saw flicks such as Pixels and Terminator: Genisys flop. Worldwide, the film has earned over $65 million so far in other territories. Expect this latest MI film to easily recoup it’s $150 million budget in the weeks to come. Here’s a look at how the rest of the box office did:
- Mission Impossible – $56 Million
- Vacation – $14.8 Million
- Ant-Man – $12.6 Million
- Minions – $12.2 Million
- Pixels – $10.4 Million
- Trainwreck – $9.7 Million
- Southpaw – $7.5 Million
- Paper Towns – $4.6 Million
- Inside Out – $4.5 Million
- Jurassic World – $3.8 Million
Top ten departures this week include Mr Holmes and Terminator Genisys. Not even Arnie could save the latest Terminator film from being savaged at the box office. While it has made over $317 million in both domestic and foreign ticket sales, those aren’t the numbers that Paramount was hoping for when they brought back the franchise from limbo. Will Arnie be back, or is this hasta la vista at long last for the Terminator?
