THE CROW reboot has stalled again…again

Is there a movie franchise more cursed than The Crow? Possibly, if you look at my home movies on betamax but that’s a story for another day. The original The Crow film made a post-mortem star out of Brandon Lee, while the rest of the flicks in the gothic series were pure stinkers.

Fast forward a couple of years, and Hollywood is still interested in resurrecting the tale of a wronged man who seeks vengeance on those who killed him and then proceeded to confuse him for a birthday clown.

The latest adaptation of the James O’Barr comic has hit yet another stumbling block according to THR. As of 2010, serious efforts have been made to remake the flick, with The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen director Stephen Norrington attached to helm it, only to leave and pass the gig onto Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and possibly have Bradley Cooper star.

That was a bust, with F. Javier Gutierrez stepping up to the plate next and courting actors such James McAvoy and Tom Hiddleston. Then Luke Evans came aboard in 2013. Things were looking great! WRONG. Both Evans and Gutierrez then left last year, leaving the project in a hiatus state until Corin Hardy was rumoured to be up for the job to direct with Jack Huston in the lead.

And now the reboot has hit its biggest hurdle yet: The bankruptcy of Relativity.

The studio filed for broke-ass last week, and the official word from the company was that they still intended to start filming The Crow later this year. According to reports however, pre-production is deader than Eric Draven, with “several” department heads and other members of the production team having left the project last week.

The future of The Crow may be in jeopardy right now, and we’re still waiting on official word of the project being cancelled, which sounds rather likely at this point. Meanwhile, fans are most likely popping corks on champagne bottles, because just about nobody wanted this reboot to go ahead.
