Ronda Rousey is the real deal. Since showing up on the mixed martial arts scene a few years ago, the Olympic Judoka has been unstoppable, armbarring and KO’ing her way through every single opponent placed in front of her as she claimed and then repeatedly defended her UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship, with almost none of her foes even seeing the second round. The undefeated Rousey’s sporting achievements are so impressive, that she has been dubbed the most dominant female athlete in the world and for her efforts was recently awarded with the ESPY Awards’ Best Fighter, beating out the likes of Floyd Mayweather (and delivering one hell of a burn in the process).

If that’s not enough, in between ripping off people’s limbs in the ring, she also somehow find the time to establish herself as a movie star, having recently had roles in Furious 7, Entourage and The Expendables 3, the latter of which saw her in one of the main roles. She’s also soon set to start work on her first leading actress gig in Peter Berg’s Mile 22 opposite Mark Wahlberg.

With that kind of resume, it’s certainly a tall order to find an actress who could play her on-screen in a movie about her life-story. I mean, who can measure up to Ronda Rousey? Well, I guess Ronda Rousey can.

Variety are reporting that Rousey has signed on to star in Paramount’s adaptation of her own autobiography “My Fight/Your Fight”, which she penned with her sister Maria Burns Ortiz. Telling the story of the 28-year old Rousey’s struggle to the top and all her achievements along the way – including becoming the first American woman to ever medal in judo in the Olympics – the autobiography became a New York Times bestseller upon its release earlier in the year.

The movie adaptation is set to be scripted by Mark Bomback (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Wolverine), who will also exec produce alongside Rousey and Mary Parent (Godzilla, Pacific Rim). With Rousey’s crazy busy schedule – she’s supposed to also star in WB’s spy thriller The Athena Project at some point – Paramount are not putting a rush on this one, but as Rousey explained on her Instagram post confirming the news, “When it’s time to make this, I promise to make it special.”

After violently dispatching her most recent opponent in just 34-seconds this weekend past, Rousey is expected to fight long-time rival Miesha Tate still later in the year, after which she has said she will take a break from fighting and may just start focusing on this then.

  1. 28 years old, on top of the MMA world, not a cocaine habit in sight (shame on you Jon) and already an autobiography. She really is a fantastic athlete but an actor…?

Look, she’s no Meryl Streep, but her acting is certainly decent enough for the action movie stuff. Not too sure about the autobiography drama stuff though, but then again she is just playing herself.
