Are you guys looking to make some easy money? Well then I suggest you quickly scrape together all the cash you can – sell a kidney, or maybe even a ginger “friend” named Nick, if you have to – and then invest it all in Twinsavers and Kleenx because the global tissue industry is about to have a massive upswing in production. The reason? All the people that will tjanking their eyeballs out on a weekly basis thanks to the new TV series adaptation of The Notebook that has just been announced.

Based on the romantic novel by Nicholas Sparks (the same guy whose books have been adapted into just about every single overly-sappy romantic drama movie where somebody is dying and the poster features two white people almost kissing), The Notebook became a massive sleeper hit in 2004 and catapulted its stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams into total Hollywood dreamboat status. And with its seriously soppy framing story of an elderly man (James Garner) recounting a story of his young love in the 1940’s to a female fellow nursing home patient (Gena Rowlands) suffering from alzheimers, it is also often recognized as one of the saddest movies ever.

EW reports that this TV series adaptation “will follow the romantic journey of the two beloved central characters Noah and Allie, at the outset of their blossoming relationship as they build their lives and their future together against the backdrop of the racial politics, economic inequities, and social mores of post-World War II of the late 1940s in North Carolina.” CW president Mark Pedowitz did add though that we more than likely won’t see the movie’s super sad modern-day set framing device. Maybe.

“I don’t believe we’re going to see the older couple—what they become. But things change [in development]. I’m thrilled Nick Sparks wanted to do it at The CW.”

I’m sure I can hear sighs of relief coming from several people’s tear ducts right about now.
