Rumour: Marvel’s next BLADE movie could feature his daughter

It wasn’t too long ago (at Comic Con) that Blade himself, Wesley Snipes, revealed that he’s had some talks with Marvel to reprise his role as the day-walking vampire slayer. Now a rumour has surfaced that suggests he may not be the lead next time we see the character on the screen, instead that position could go to his newly-revealed daughter – Fallon Grey.

Would you like  to know more? Well (as per Bleeding Cool) Fallon Grey is set to debut in the upcoming ‘Blade the Hunter’ comic book and…

…is a sixteen year old girl from rural Oregon. Nominated for Prom Queen, Captain of the debate team, most popular girl in her class. But there is another side to Fallon. A feeling like there’s something more inside of her. When terror strikes her small town, she’ll find out just how right she was. As fearsome supernatural forces hunt Fallon, she’ll come face to face with something even more shocking than the monsters on her tail. Eric Brooks…Blade…her father?! And in each other, they’ll discover the purpose they’ve each been struggling to find.

The new series was set to launch in October but has since been delayed, with no indication yet as to when the series will begin to hit the shelves. The reason for this delay, again according to Bleeding Cool, is:

I understand from well-connected sources that this is due to careful concern from up above the food chain, that the character and the comic are suddenly considered extremely important by the bean counters, and the multi-media folk.

Oh really? Well isn’t that interesting! Don’t know about you, but I’d be interested to see what sounds a lot like a new Buffy that has Blade’s mean streak and not taking any prisoners hitting the screen; especially with daddy dearest in the mix as he’s still one of my favourite on-screen Marvel characters. There’s also no denying that she’ll tick a lot of boxes in Marvel’s push to broaden their appeal to potential movie goers, which is not a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination – for anyone.

It could also be that this new Blade may not actually be a movie, but rather a TV series. The timelines don’t quite match up if this were a movie as there’s no reason to have a comic book push for a movie that would at least be a couple years away if true. But TV is another thing entirely though. In fact, we already know that Oscar-winning screenwriter/producer John Ridley (12 Years a Slave, Three Kings, Undercover Brother, Static Shock) has been secretly working on mysterious Marvel TV project for a while now, which is supposed to be some new take on an established character. That description would certainly fit this project, as well as both Ridley’s skillset and the timelines for having a comic book tie-in.

In the meantime while we wait for confirmation on any of this speculation, check out some character concept art for the new Fallon Grey and Blade from the upcoming ‘Blade the Hunter’:

Yeah, I really like the idea as well, especially since this sort of implies that 1998’s Blade is actually the first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.

But Incredible Hulk is in the MCU. It was the first film where the characters crossed over when Robert Downey Jr shows up in the end. William Hurt is even reprising his role as Gen Ross for Captain America: Civil War.

Ang Lee’s Hulk doesn’t count though. If Wesley Snipes is playing Blade, then he is the link here between the earlier Blade movies and the MCU. There’s no link with Ang Lee’s Hulk at all.
