Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve really exploded onto the international scene with the dynamite one-two thriller combination of Prisoners and Enemy. Both those movies, as massively different in tone as they were, were led by Jake Gyllenhaal who used them to transition from “That kid who used to talk to rabbits and was stuck in a bubble” to “Holy crap, give this man all the Oscars!”.

For Villeneuve’s third Hollywood production, he’s leaving behind his muse Gyllenhaal though, but in his stead has assembled one seriously A-list cast in what looks to be yet another red hot thriller in Sicario. Led by Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro, Sicario – which is the Mexican term for a hitman – looks to be a hard-hitting, fantastically gritty dive into the US war on drugs, and I need it in my eyeballs now!

But it’s still another month before it releases internationally, and I’ve yet to see it added to the local release schedule. Eek. Luckily, there’s a great new trailer and also a kinda-gory new clip to hopefully tide me over until the local distributors come to their senses. Check them out below.

In the lawless border area stretching between the U.S. and Mexico, an idealistic FBI agent (Emily Blunt) is enlisted by an elite government task force official (Josh Brolin) to aid in the escalating war against drugs. Led by an enigmatic consultant with a questionable past (Benicio Del Toro), the team sets out on a clandestine journey forcing Kate to question everything that she believes in order to survive.

Sicario also stars Jon Bernthal, Victor Garber, Jeffrey Donovan and Daniel Kaluuya. It is set for release on September 25, 2015.
