The last time Jack Black teamed up with director Rob Letterman, the end result was 2010’s Gulliver’s Travels, a movie so inane and painfully unfunny that it could make onions cry. Now the pair are joining forces to once again tackle some much beloved literature, this time being R.L. Stine’s best-selling kids’ light-horror adventure series Goosebumps. Letterman and co have this time mixed in some fourth-wall breaking story mechanics though as Black actually plays Stine himself who apparently only wrote those stories to somehow trap all the monsters he featured in his books. And I’ll be damned if it doesn’t look kind of light-hearted, all-ages fun!

A new international trailer for the flick has just dropped showing plenty of the fun monster mayhem on display, including tussles with yetis, giant praying mantis and some deceivingly cute garden gnomes who really seem to know their way around sharp and pointy kitchen utensils.

Check it out below.

Upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach’s comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the bestselling Goosebumps series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange… he is a prisoner of his own imagination – the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorize the town, it’s suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.

Goosebumps also stars Dylan Minnette, Odeya Rush and Ryan Lee. It is scheduled for release on October 16, 2015. There’s no local release date set yet.
