Marvel’s first foray into TV network land wasn’t exactly an instant success. Sure, Agents of SHIELD is awesome now, but it had a much rockier start. That definitely cannot be said for Marvel’s first collaboration with online streaming service Netflix though, as Daredevil launched like a blind bat out of hell and just kept building on that intensity. That intensity came from the much darker and violent tone that Netflix allows, which is something that we’ve heard will carry on the Marvel shows.

And the next one up is Marvel’s Jessica Jones which sees Krysten Ritter as the eponymous failed super hero who becomes a private detective in New York City. Up until now we’ve met Jones’ badass superhero love interest Luke Cage (Mike Coulter), been introduced to the villain, and heard all about how this show was being billed more as a “psychological thriller”, but what we didn’t know was when we would actually get to watch any of it. But Marvel and Netflix have now announced that show’s first season, which consists of 13 one-hour episodes, will all be made available in all Netflix regions on 20 November.

And to mark the announcement, we’ve also got this first teaser trailer, which keeps things very arty and doesn’t really give us much of a look at the show, but at least it’s something.

After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.

Ritter also showed up recently on Marvel’s “This Week In Marvel” podcast (via MCU Exchange)where she spoke about the mature content of the show. “Alias”, the Brian Michael Bendis penned comic book that this series is mainly drawing from, was released under Marvel’s mature readers only Max imprint, which meant it could depict things such as graphic violence and sex. Since the comic often showed the latter between Jones and Cage, should we expect the same from the show? According to Ritter, the answer is yes, even if she finds it all slightly awkward.

“At the end of the day, I also knew Mike had my back. Whether we were doing stunts together, or love-making scenes, which I’m not very comfortable with.”

In “Alias”, the villainous Killgrave aka The Purple Man really does a disturbing number on Jones, abusing her both physically and psychologically. And according to Ritter we’ll get to see all that and more from the villain’s on-screen version played by Doctor Who‘s David Tennant.

“It’s twisted around and expanded on and developed.”

The show is currently still busy in post-production, which is why Ritter has yet to actually see any finished footage (and would also explain why the teaser above is so light in content). However, the snippets that the actress has seen has really got her excited.

“The stuff did that I did see was so rad that it almost brought me to tears.”

As mentioned earlier, Marvel’s Jessica Jones will debut in all Netflix regions on November 20.
