The Transformers they are a transformin’! Not too long ago we told you about how The Transformers movie franchise was assembling a writing team to oversee all future releases and spin-offs – all part of Paramount’s plan to create their own cinematic universe because everyone else is; and even that long-time franchise director and master of the baysplosion, Michael Bay, would be relinquishing the reins to another director.

Since then we’ve heard nothing official from the writing team, which includes the likes of Akiva Goldsman and Robert Kirkman, or Michael Bay – who’s currently working on the true-life action drama 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. Who hasn’t been quite as tight-lipped is voice actor Mark Ryan, who’s voiced Jetfire (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) and Lockdown (Transformers: Age of Extinction) among others. I suppose being a tight-lipped voice actor would defeat the point.

At the recent ‘Wings and Wheels’ convention in the UK he spoke (via Movieweb) about where the next installment in the franchise might be heading and mentioned that it could have a dual story line:

The first part would follow Mark Wahlberg’s Cade Yeager as he and assorted Autobots and Dinobots work to save the planet from an unspecified threat. Or as they like to call it, Tuesday – and fairly standard fair.

The second part is where it gets interesting. Optimus Prime could be headed out into space in order to find the Autobots’ creators, the Quintessons, which could lead him to encounter the giant Transformer Unicron. Ah, The mythical Unicorn Unicron. Some of this was alluded to in Transformers: Age of Extinction which opened the door for story lines set off Earth, so while we should always take rumours with a giant grain of salt they do sound plausible.

Ryan also claimed that the next movie would start shooting next year, for release in 2017. In the office pool I’m betting on it being called TransFIVEmers: Dawn of Justice because they’re not very smart movies. Entertaining though, which is all you want sometimes, and rather popular judging by the billions of dollars in box office revenue. Are you looking forward to another Transformers movie?
