RUMOUR: Potential MAN OF STEEL 2 plot and character details revealed

So remember that recent claim that Man of Steel 2 was on “permanent hold”? Yeah, that’s apparently a whole lot of Krypto-crap! That’s at least according to a new unconfirmed report from regular scoopers Heroic Hollywood, who claim the previous story was “just ridiculous” as “Superman is still a key player and part of the DCEU’s long term strategy.” So what is happening with the next standalone Superman movie?

[POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD SO SCROLL BELOW PICTURE AT OWN RISK!]

According to HH, it looks like MoS2 will see Superman facing off against the killer alien intelligence Brainiac. This is not the first time we’ve heard Brainiac mentioned in this new DC Cinematic Universe, as Zack Snyder told EW at Comic-Con earlier in the year that “We can’t do another alien invasion. Brainiac was definitely down the road.”

In a follow-up post though, HH took the report even further saying that Brainiac comes to Earth to retrieve the DNA codex of the entire Kryptonian race – who was revealed to be grown and not born – that Zod also wanted from Superman. But unlike Zod, he’s not looking for the codex from Kal-El… because there’s another Kryptonian on Earth!

If you’re were pretty eagle-eyed, you may recall that in Man of Steel when Superman eventually finds the Kryptonian ship in the Arctic, that there’s an open, empty cryo-pod inside. While the movie gives no explanation for who or what was inside the pod – leaving it just as an Easter egg – DC Comics actually released a Man of Steel tie-in comic that served as a prequel to the movie, and introduced us to the pod’s eventual occupant: Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl. As HH explains:

In the prequel comic before the release of Man Of Steel, David Goyer scripted that Kara Zor-El was the most promising daughter of the House of El. The prequel comic told Kara’s story as she nears completion of her training. She intended to become a member of Krypton’s ‘Explorers Guild’; citizens tasked with searching the cosmos for suitable planets, and triggering terraforming projects to make them inhabitable to Kryptonians.

Apparently this has been the plan from the start: to have Supergirl show up in the second Superman film. What’s more, it’s claimed that this sequel will actually focus on Supergirl as much as it does her more famous cousin. Just a few weeks ago the news broke that Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller was perhaps interested in directing Man of Steel 2, and it was apparently this equal attention to a solid female character that got his attention.

That’s not the end of this report though, as HH claims that another famous Superman character is also set to make his debut as Brainiac apparently doesn’t come after Supergirl himself to get the codex, but instead uses his limited knowledge of Kryptonian bioengineering to create Bizarro – a genetically defective “reverse-Superman”, if you will – to instead go after her. I can’t help but think that a twisted, warped character like Bizarro would be right in Miller’s wheelhouse.

That’s if Miller actually directs the movie. HH is hearing that while MoS 2 is his if he wants it, DC/WB have also put anther option on the table for him: They have offered him the long-gestating Dark Universe aka Justice League Dark now that Guillermo Del Toro is no longer directing the team-up movie featuring the more supernatural characters in the DC universe led by John Constantine. And honestly, while the thought of what Miller could do with a Superman movie gets me real excited, him on a Justice League Dark movie is positively geekgasmic!

Of course all of this needs to be confirmed first, and with there still not being any Man of Steel sequel penciled into DC/WB’s official comic book movie lineup yet, there’s no telling when/if that will actually happen.
