All hail the Pope in this trailer for HEIST

I’ve seen so many heist movies, that I’m already living the genre. Heck, I’ve even got my own crew, who’ll help break into the vault where the script for Rocky VII: Adrian’s Revenge is being kept. Kleptomaniac Kervyn the safe-cracker. Terrifying Trevor the muscle. Jammy James the demolition expert. Nick “They promised me a snappy nickname for this caper” Last Name Withheld the patsy.

Thing is, most heist movies end with the gang getting their hands on the score, getting caught at the last minute and then hoodwinking their way out of danger with an ingenious twist of Shyamalan proportions.

And that’s where said genre flick ends. But what if there was a caper movie, where getting your hands on the cash inside a Las Vegas vault was only half the plot? And that’s where Heist comes in, as grabbing the money is easy. Running away with it, is a whole different ball-game altogether:

When their attempt to rob a casino owned by the feared gangster Pope (Robert De Niro) goes awry and a shootout ensues, Vaughn (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Cox (Dave Bautista) are forced to flee on foot and hijack city Bus 657 and take the passengers hostage.

Now, in a high speed chase, Vaughn will not only have to outwit the police, led by Officer Bajos (Gina Carano) who are in hot pursuit, but he will have to contend with Pope’s maniacal right hand man, Dog (Morris Chestnut), in order to make it through the day alive.  But we quickly learn that things are not what they seem, and Vaughn has more than one card up his sleeve.

That actually looks like a fun spin on the genre. Heist is out in the US on November 13. Previously known as Bus 657, the film stars Robert DeNiro’s career choice in a much better role for a change.

De Niro is the second name on the bill and surrounded by people way beneath him. I predict that he’s a secondary character and did this as a favour/for the money, but it’s so bad they put him front and centre for the marketing.
