THE ISLAND OF DOCTOR MOREAU may return as a TV series

Taken is getting tooken to TV, Minority report is now a series and Westworld looks like a high budget revival on a smaller screen. Forget about Hollywood’s fascination with shared universes right now, as it looks like taking the big screen to the flatscreen is now the in-thing in TV land.

Dr Moreau

And you can add The Island of Dr Moreau to that list as well. That’s according to THR, who say that Phillip “Sleepy Hollow” Iscove is working on a script that has been commisioned by the CBS, which will follow “the fiercely intelligent and fearless Dr. Katherine Moreau as she expands the boundaries of medicine through bold and revolutionary scientific experimentation and treatments in her privately funded island hospital.”.

Mind you, there’s no mention of the animal-human hybrids made famous in the original H.G Wells novel, although that could come later. Still, it;s hard to imagine any adaptation of the work, without horrific abominations from the animal kingdom. But with a medical twist, it’d make perfect sense to introduce animal gene-splicing. I’d kill for a few night-vision genes in my helix code.

This isn’t the first time that The Island of Dr Moreau has made it out of the original source material. There was a 1932 adaptation, another one starring Burt Lancaster in 1977 and of course, the infamous clusterf*** that was the 1996 version which starred Marlon Brando, Marlon Brando’s morbidly obese ego and Val Kilmer.

Whatever the outcome is, this is one series that I reckon could do well on TV. Minus the campiness. And so long as they don’t ask Val Kilmer to cameo.
