The Cigarette Smoking Man also known as Cancer man sure lasted longer than I expected, what with that nasty habit of his and all. And he will be back on our screens again this coming January as The X-Files returns to Fox in a 6 episode miniseries. You might have read me gush about this in a previous post.

We have now been treated to the new poster featuring the silhouette of The Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis) as shown above as well as this short but powerful new trailer that you can watch below.

This new trailer just gave me chills and its the third time watching it! Just hearing that theme at the end has me wanting to dust off my old box set and do a proper recap before Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) make there long overdue return to our screens.

Originally airing in September of 1993 The X-Files went on to enjoy a highly successful nine seasons, garnering a massive fan base and collecting an impressive haul of awards along the way. The new season kicks off with a special two night event that begins on Sunday January 24 and continuing with its premiere release on Monday January 25.

Joining Duchovny and Anderson from the original cast is Mitch Pileggi (Walter Skinner), Annabeth Gish as Monica Reyes, Bruce Harwood as John Fitzgerald Byers, Tom Braidwood as Melvin Frohike, Dean Haglund as Richard “Ringo” Langly, Sheila Larken as Margaret Scully.

Alongside the original cast we will see a list of guest stars making an appearance, including Joel McHale (“Community”), Robbie Amell (“The Flash”), Lauren Ambrose (“Dig,” “Six Feet Under”), Annabeth Gish (“The Bridge”), Annet Mahendru (“The Americans”), Rhys Darby (“Flight of the Conchords”), Kumail Nanjiani (“Silicon Valley”).

Three of the episodes are written and directed by Chris Carter, with the remaining new episodes written and directed by Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan and James Wong.

I guess the only thing you need to be asking yourself now is – Are you ready to believe?

“Just hearing that theme at the end has me wanting to dust off my old box set and do a proper recap” – you read my mind! I’m actually really looking forward to this. Has serious potential.
