You don’t know dick! No really, you probably don’t know that Moby Dick, Herman Melville’s classic novel, is actually based off real events that transpired in the 19th century when a whaling ship was hunted down by a giant whale with a very sour disposition (I’m guessing somebody called it fat -“It’s blubber, damn it!”). Now that real story is getting the Hollywood treatment with In the Heart of the Sea, which sees veteran director Ron Howard (Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind) teaming up with his Rush star Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Vacation) to show us just how this titanic struggle went down… with some over the top Hollywood embellishments of course.

Warner Bros have now released the final trailer for the film, and it’s filled with all that fancy whale-fighting action – with a side-order of survival drama – all brought to life with some incredible visuals. This movie looks to be *cough* one whale of a time, and I’m pretty stoked to see it.

Check out the trailer below.

Set in the winter of 1820, In the Heart of the Sea follows the New England whaling ship Essex as it is assaulted by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will, and an almost human sense of vengeance. The real-life maritime disaster would inspire Melville’s Moby-Dick. But that told only half the story. In the Heart of the Sea reveals the encounter’s harrowing aftermath, as the ship’s surviving crew is pushed to their limits and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive. Braving storms, starvation, panic and despair, the men will call into question their deepest beliefs, from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade, as their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first mate still seeks to bring the great whale down.

In the Heart of the Sea boasts quite the supporting cast, featuring Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Flags of Our Fathers), Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins, Inception), Ben Wishaw (I’m Not There, Cloud Atlas), Tom Holland (The Impossible), Brendan Gleeson (Edge of Tomorrow, The Company You Keep) and Jordi Molla (Riddick, Bad Boys 2). It’s scheduled for release internationally on December 11, 2015. It will hit local cinemas on New Years Day.
