If you follow these things, you would know that Quentin Tarantino has been in the news quite a bit recently after he made public statements at an anti-police brutality rally calling police “murderers”. That earned him not just the enmity of various US police groups, who have now called for a boycott of his upcoming western The Hateful Eight, but also apparently got producer Harvey Weinstein “angry” and “desperate” as he feared that Tarantino’s “pointless and unnecessary” words would scare off audiences and even awards.

While I’m not going to get involved in the discussion on whether or not Tarantino was correct in his statement, I do feel that I need to point out to Mr. Weinstein that he has nothing to fear: People are going to see this movie. I know this because I just watched the latest trailer that was released last night, and I need this movie in my life right damn now!

This flick has had a rickety road to fruition, but man it’s looking superb. The cast looks to all be having a hell of a time with the material, and Tarantino’s directorial flourishes just seems perfectly suited to this genre.

Check it out below.

Set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Kurt Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Samuel L. Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Walton Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces: Bob (Demian Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Tim Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Michael Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Bruce Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all…

The Hateful Eight will be released exclusively in 70mm in select US cinemas on Christmas day, before it opens internationally – including locally – on January 8, 2016.
