You know what, I am just going to come out and say it. I thought ‘master’ director Ridley Scott’s Prometheus was rubbish. Honestly, I haven’t had my intelligence assaulted like that since Trevor tried explaining where he thought babies came from. At a recent press conference in Sydney the director spoke a bit about the upcoming (recently renamed) sequel Alien: Covenant, a movie that I truly hope has a story that isn’t made from Swiss cheese.

Commenting on the themes in the film he said that the “very basic questions posed in Alien: why the alien, who might have made it and where did it come from?” are going to be explored and that “It’s a very complex story. It’s an evolution of what I first did with Prometheus 1.” Well let’s be honest here Scott, the material the wardens read Trevor at story time is an evolution on the script for Prometheus 1.

So what is the story this time round? Well, a colony ship called Covenant lands on a planet they think is pretty awesome. Spoiler: Not for long! Another surprise is they find David (Michael Fassbender), the android from the first film also there. I assume that he landed there with Noomi Rapace – you remember her? She gave birth to an alien thingy and 3 minutes later was sprinting, in line with a falling spaceship, because reasons… Apparently though she will only have a minor role to play. Maybe the aliens get her this time?

He then goes on to explain his reasons for wanting to make the new movies which will all act as prequels to his classic Alien. And yes, I said “movies”. Plural. More precisely, three of them:

So I’m now going to the next one, which is the next evolution directly connected with the first one, which was this Shaw, when he [tore] Michael Fassbender in two pieces and we’ll kind of pick it up there and it will evolve. When that’s finished there’ll be another one and then another one which will gradually drive into the back entrance of the film in 1979.

Not sure what Scott had in his coffee but if you can figure out what he was trying to say let me know! So a few more movies that will come full circle and connect with the first (I mean 3rd?) movie known to us as Alien. That cold work. The best thing is we will finally learn what that space dude in the huge ship was doing with his stomach all bust up:

So in other words, why was this space jockey there and why did he have an Alien inside him? And those questions will be answered.

I am not sure I will be willing to sit through another movie if it’s like Prometheus but I am sure that next time round Scott will have an easier time with the script writers. I mean it couldn’t be a mess like the last time, right?
