I loved the series Entourage! It was fun, entertaining and always left me wanting to experience how the other side lives.
That’s what the show was about really, simply having fun showing off the Hollywood lifestyle from the point of view of a group of friends that follow their childhood friend from Boston, Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) as his star rises in Hollywood. Enter lavish parties, plenty of hot woman and excessive gifts, houses and cars, plenty of cameos from stars playing themselves and poking fun at each other along the way – (I’m reminded now of the episode where the guys give Matt Damon a big donation because, well he’s Jason Bourne dammit). What’s not to like?
If you expected the movie to go one step further then you would be wrong. It is merely an extension of the show itself with a longer running time, and that’s great because I don’t think any real fan would have wanted anything else really.
It is that style of storytelling that made Entourage the hit that it was, and while the show or the movie might not be blowing any critics away, that doesn’t mean that it isn’t still great fun. For fans of the show anyway.
Entourage: The Movie is written and directed by the series’ creator, Doug Ellin and the story picks up basically where the show ended. We find ourselves in Ibiza where Vinny is getting over his failed marriage of nine days (If you remember the show ended with Vinny flying off to get married), with a massive Yacht filled with half-naked woman and is met here by his group of friends – Eric, a.k.a. “E” (Kevin Connolly), Turtle (Jerry Ferrara), and Vince’s own brother, Johnny (Kevin Dillon) – who of course are in their element in this party environment.
It seems that in this time super-agent and friend of Vinny, Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) has gone into retirement, focusing more on spending time with his family and keeping his temper under control, with some difficulty.
The movie moves forward from here with the main plot focus being that Vincent now not only wants to be the star of his new movie but he also wants to try his hand at directing. Of course this leaves Ari with the constant headache of trying to secure the deal and get funding for Vinny when his star decides to that the movie needs a bigger ending, typical Vinny Chase right there.
Overall the movie plays out like you watching a season of the show compressed into 100 minutes of running time. The acting is exactly what you would expect for the guys to bring in this movie, with some people outshining the rest of the cast. Jeremy Piven and Kevin Dillon’s characters are just so loud and over the top that they will always steal the show. The pacing is great and there is always something different happening or new characters making appearances so you always find yourself interested in what’s happening on-screen.
That was always part of the fun of Entourage and you will get to enjoy cameos from stars like Ronda Roussey, Emily Ratajkowski, Liam Neeson, Haley Joel Osment, Billy Bob Thornton, David Arquette, Tom Brady, Jessica Alba, Ed O’Neill, Armie Hammer, David Spade, George Takei, Warren Buffet and many more.
Why watch Entourage: The Movie? Why not, if you a fan of the show you will most probable love the movie, even just because you missed the crazy antics too much. If you not a fan of the show you won’t be raving about the movie, but you won’t be bored either.
