The-Legend-of-Tarzan-trailer

AAAAAAAAAAHUHUHUHUHAAAAAAAHHHHH!! No, I didn’t just see Nick’s morning face again, that’s just my impersonation of Tarzan’s famous ululating yell, which is called for as the first trailer for the new Legend of Tarzan has recently come swinging in. True Blood star (and as close to a real life freaking Viking that we have) Alexander Skarsgard is the latest in the long line of cinematic Lords of Jungle that began all the way back in 1918 when Elmo Lincoln starred in Tarzan of the Apes, the very first adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic novels.

Over the years, Tarzan has made steady appearances on the big screen, with the most famous being Johnny Weissmuller (who originated the trademark yell), Christopher Lambert and of course Disney’s much beloved animated effort. So what makes Legend of Tarzan different to all these other versions?

Well, honestly, not much if this first trailer is anything to go by. I mean, there isn’t even a Phil Collins song! Don’t get me wrong though, it actually looks damn cool and Skarsgard is perfectly cast as Tarzan, while Wolf of Wall Street‘s Margot Robbie is also an inspired choice as his love Jane. Then you add in Christoph Waltz as the bad guy and some pretty fantastic looking CG apes, and not mention Harry Potter franchise alum David Yates at the helm, and this actually looks like a really magical *cough* action adventure flick.

Check out the trailer below and see if you agree.

It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.

The Legend of Tarzan was written by The Mummy 1 & 2 director Stephen Sommers and Stuart Beattie (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra) and also stars Samuel L. Jackson and Djimon Hounsou. It is scheduled for release on July 1, 2016.
