Our kind of traitor

There are many different types of spy genre that have made it to the big screen. You have the sexy, all too confident Bonds, the crazy silly Austin Powers, even the over the top mental Kingsman, but my favourite have always been the ones spun by the master of espionage, John le Carré.

The guy is a master of the genre, creating gripping thrillers that are not only realistic, but accessible to the average reader (even Trevor can understand his books with a map and flashlight). So I am truly excited that they are basing a movie on his awesome 2010 book Our Kind of Spy, and even happier that they have such a brilliant cast.

Featuring the likes of Ewan McGregor, Naomie Harris, Nicholas Brody Damian Lewis, Stellan Skarsgard, and Mark Gatiss the film has some serious acting depth. I enjoyed The Tailor of Panama, but the tone of the film was slightly off from what I wanted, even with great performances from Pierce Brosnan and Geoffrey Rush. Anyway, enough of my babbling! What’s it all about?

Who can you trust with the truth? Ewan McGregor and Naomie Harris are a couple drawn into a dangerous game of international espionage, caught between Stellan Skarsgard’s money-launder, the Russian mafia, the British government, and Damian Lewis’ ruthless MI6 agent.

From the best-selling author of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, John le Carré, adapted by Hossein Amini (The Two Faces of January, Drive) and directed by Susanna White (Boardwalk Empire, Generation Kill).

That does look awesome. I like novels/movies that include the innocent civilian who gets caught up in a web of lies and deceit but manage to just hold their own. The movie premiers on 6 May in the UK but we’re not yet sure when it will the US. I’ll let you know when we can go watch it though!

Pretty good cast for a le Carré movie – must say few people write a spy thriller like he does, just flippen tricky to read unless your 100% focused…
