Despite the fact that the mostly harsh critic reviews have turned him into possibly the saddest meme on the internet, Ben Affleck as Batman was actually one of the most universally adored highlights of Batman v Superman. And while I don’t completely agree with how director Zack Snyder portrayed the Dark Knight in his film, Affleck’s badass performance was enough to get me seriously excited for the upcoming solo Batman movie.

Now we’ve been hearing about this solo movie for a while now already, with many a story going around that Affleck was considering writing and directing it himself. Well it would seem that half of that statement has already come true. Chatting to THR, Hollywood talent agency William Morris Endeavor’s co-CEO Patrick Whitesell revealed that Affleck has already put pen to paper with his “cool” idea for Batman.

“…There’s a script that he’s written that is a really cool [Batman] idea, so that’s out there as an option.”

It had been previously reported that Affleck had been collaborating with DC Comics Chief Creative Officer and fan-favourite writer Geoff Johns, and this script is probably the result. Affleck is of course no slouch as a screenwriter, having previously won an Oscar for co-writing Good Will Hunting, as well as penning the scripts for his other highly praised directorial efforts in Gone, Baby Gone and The Town (not to mention winning an Oscar for Best Director for Argo). With that sort of mainstream writing/directing calibre combining with the influence of an amazing comic book writer like Johns, I’m extremely intrigued to find out what this “really cool Batman idea” could be.

It’s been hinted at quite strongly that the solo Batman movie would be a prequel to Batman v Superman – Affleck’s hair was even greyed in the movie to make him look older so that he could potentially play his normal “younger” self in other movies – with the most likely scenario being that it would focus on his battle with the Joker which seeming resulted in the death of an unnamed Robin.

Of course we’re going to have to wait a while as Affleck will next be donning the cape and cowl in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which is scheduled for next year. What’s intriguing though, is according to Whitesell, Affleck’s only “contracted to do at least Justice League One and Two, so at least three times wearing the cape”. Note: no mention of a solo Batman movie.

With Affleck’s Batman being as well received as by most as he was, I highly doubt that will stay that way though, and I definitely expect Warner Bros to be extending that contract soon.

Are you guys as excited for a Batman solo movie written and directed by Ben Affleck as I am, or were you not a fan at all of his rendition? And if the latter, hopefully you still think he was the bomb in Phantoms, yo!

Watched it yesterday, was actually quite good for me and I understood all the small details and story and where they were going with it, plus all the subtleties and dark tone they took suited they movie since Man of Steel was destructive and people died, glad they made it feel more real instead of blowing a city to kingdom come and lucky nobody got hurt

I would watch a Batfleck movie with Batfleck himself having a hand in the script. As long as Zack Snyder stays away. He is ruining the whole DC franchise for me. At least we still have the pretty good tv shows to fall back on.
