Thanks to the joys (read: the exact opposite of joy) of being a busy adult, I’m currently about a whole season behind when it comes to The Blacklist. But now there;s some serious motivation to catch on NBC’s popular TV series, which sees Emmy Award Winner James Spader (Boston Legal, Avengers: Age of Ultron) just chewing TV scenery as Red Reddington, the FBI agent turned internationally renowned criminal turned FBI consultant with a mysterious agenda of his own who helps catch other criminals on his list every week. Yes, there are other people in the cast, but honestly you just tune in to each episode to see how snarky and sneering Red can be (sorry, Megan Boone and Harry Lennix and the other actors whose names I couldn’t bother to learn).

But there may just be another well known name that could be tied to the franchise now as EW is reporting that Famke Janssen (X-Men franchise, GoldeneyeTaken) will be headlining a new spinoff TV series which is in the works.

Janssen is set to be introduced in the upcoming May 5 episode, in which she will be playing a character known as Susan “Scottie” Halstead. There have been no details revealed yet about the role, but the plan is for the episode to act as a backdoor pilot for the still untitled spinoff show. Justified‘s Michael Dinner is set to direct the episode.

It’s uncertain at this stage whether Janssen’s Halsted will be a good guy, or one of the fiendishly bad people on Red’s Blacklist, but EW are also reporting that Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class), who plays Cabal villain Mr. Solomon on The Blacklist, is set to co-star with Janssen. Actress Tawny Cypress (Unforgettable) is also set to make her franchise debut on the , though no details have been revealed about her character yet.

It must be mentioned though that while NBC is already lining up the cast, the network is yet to make an official commitment to the spinoff. They will probably make a decision based on response to the upcoming episode.

The Blacklist is currently on a mid-season 3 break, but will be returning to screens in the US on April 7.
