Jason Momoa talks BATMAN V SUPERMAN reaction, hype for AQUAMAN and JUSTICE LEAGUE

Did you know that Jason Momoa has spent the last three years directing commercials for American clothing line Carhartt? I mean can you even imagine Khal Drogo caring about the latest in men’s designer workwear? Luckily the Game of Thrones actor is a bit of a polymath with plenty of diverse skills. One of which – if you’ve followed his career like I have from back in the Stargate Atlantis days – is fighting, which is something he’s going to get to do a lot of now that he’s a bonafide superhero as Aquaman in WB’s DC Comics Cinematic Universe.

Momoa spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the appeal of throwing down alongside Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and more in the upcoming Justice League.

“I like fighting. So, I’m looking forward to being a superhero and just fighting. There’s some good battles.”

After Justice League, Momoa will of course get to go and be his own superhero in the James Wan directed Aquaman solo movie in 2018. We’ve already heard from Wan that he’s trying to make this a fun, high seas adventure movie, which is definitely a change of pace from the hereto grim DCCU offerings from director Zack Snyder. The other difference, as Momoa points out, is that despite being a mainstay in the comics for decades, Aquaman has never really been given a high profile showing in other modern media (Smallville and cheesy 70’s cartoons don’t count).

“It’s just something that hasn’t been explored before. For me, it’s like Iron Man. Whe nIron Man came out, it was like, ‘Wow!’ We haven’t explored that character before and Robert Downey Jr took it to a whole other level. He’s genius and it was amazing. I loved it.”

Whether Momoa can pull off an RDJ and launch a B-list character like Aquaman right into the forefront of pop culture is still a big unknown right now. Though we got to see his Aquaman in Batman v Superman, it was far too brief a glimpse to form any proper kind of opinion. Not that there’s been any shortage of opinions on BvS as seemingly everybody with an internet connection has been voicing theirs since the movie released a few weeks ago. Unfortunately though, a lot of those opinions have been heavily negative. Not that that seems to both Momoa though.

“Some people liked it, some people didn’t, it is what it is. I don’t get it, but I don’t really listen to what anyone says… You can’t win ’em all. And I had a ball. I loved it.”

“There’s been some things here and there, but I’m stoked. There’s a lot of support from fans. There’s a big beautiful world. There’s a lot — a lot — of stuff. I feel really privileged to know that there’s a lot of big, beautiful stuff that’s going to happen. I’m excited too, for people to see the final product. And now it’s our turn — it’s Justice League time! I’ve been waiting for four years that I’ve known about it that I’ve had to keep my mouth shut. I’m super pumped to shoot it!”

And despite my reservations about BvS, now that all the unwieldy setup work has been down, I’m just as super pumped to see it! The Zack Snyder directed Justice League – Part One hits screens on November 17, 2017. Aquaman, which also stars Amber Heard as Aquaman’s wife and queen Mera (whom Momoa says he is “super stoked” to work with), will be splashing down on July 27, 2018.
