No more remakes, dammit! I’d usually scream this from the rooftops but in this instance I am actually rather excited because CHRIS PRATT and any screenplay by Nic Pizzolatto, the brains behind the first season of True Detective, is sure to be tighter than a dolphins blowhole.

I am of course talking about the Magnificent Seven, a movie that deserves its place in the hall of Western classics. Originally directed by John Sturges the movie had a magn fantastic cast, featuring Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn, James Coburn and Brad Dexter.

Well for the upcoming contemporary version director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) is not to be outdone and has also lined up a stellar cast. Those include Denzel Washington, Lord CHRIS PRATT, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Byung-Hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Martin Sensmeier – damn that is a fine cast! I’d never imagine D’Onofrio would make such a good cowboy, but then again I never imagined him as a psychotic crime lord either (Daredevil, anyone?).

So what’s it about? You don’t know?! SHAME!

Desperate townspeople hire seven mercenaries ( Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier) to battle a ruthless industrialist (Peter Sarsgaard) in the Old West.

Yup, it isn’t a complicated story, but many Westerns weren’t, which is one reason why I loved them, they allowed men to be MEN!

Here are some pictures to whet your appetite;

Looks pretty, well, Western! You’ll have to wait till 23 September to compare the two though…

Who do you think would win? Old-school or new?
