Fresh off her bREYkout role in the recent Star Wars movie, Daisy Ridley will (via TheWrap) reteam with The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams for Kolma. Abrams won’t himself be directing, but his Bad Robot production company will oversee the movie while Marielle Heller (The Diary of a Teenage Girl) will be behind the camera.

Kolma is based on the 2003 Israeli TV movie All I’ve Got from writer/director Keren Margalit, which has been described as “a cross between a loftier, more mystical version of The Notebook and Albert Brooks‘ 1991 fantasy romance Defending Your Life“.

The official plot synopsis for All I’ve Got, or Kol Ma She’Yesh Li if you prefer, is as follows:

A 72-year-old grandmother dies and finds herself on a ferry which will take her across the river to the hereafter. On the ferryboat she meets her first love, who was killed in a road accident in which they were both involved when they were young.

She is presented with a fateful choice: to start life afresh as a 22-year-old – her age at the time of the accident – and to relinquish all her memories of the life she has lived with her husband and children; or to remain a 72-year-old woman with all her life’s memories intact.

If she chooses the second alternative she will get off the boat when it reaches its destination and will never be truly reunited with her beloved, who has been waiting for her on the ferryboat for fifty long years.

Oh boy, that sounds like a real tear-jerker.

It seems like this project has been in the works for a while as a number of writers have worked on the script – Megan Holley (Sunshine Cleaning) has written the latest draft, while Rolin James, Karen Moncrieff and Sarah Polley have all taken a crack at it previously.

The movie is also said to have scored a fairly substantial budget of between $60-$70 million – enough to allow for good visual effects while keeping the scope of the movie small. I think it goes without saying that Ridley can easily pass as 22, but instead of spending millions on aging her digitally they could just cast Nick as her age double.

What do you think, sound like a movie you’d like to see?
