Oh what a difference a few weeks and a proper trailer makes. Thanks to the it-would-be-funny-if-it-wasn’t-so-bad tone deaf first look we got at Star Trek Beyond, I had all but lost any hype for the upcoming next chapter in the new rebooted movie franchise. Hell, if you had asked me at the time, I wouldn’t even have been able to tell you when it releases, and it’s my job to know these things.

But then that waaaaaay better second trailer dropped (followed shortly by some more fanboy faith-restoring news from new director Justin Lin and old direct JJ Abrams) and all of a sudden it was all about the starship USS Hype, warp factor 7, please Mr Sulu. And now we have two new TV spots – one relatively lengthy as far as TV spots go – which just keeps that momentum going. There’s plenty in here that we’ve already seen in the first two trailer, but there are a few nice new beats being covered and it makes it all look pretty good.

Check them out below.

“Star Trek Beyond,” the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin (“The Fast and the Furious” franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew. In “Beyond,” the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.

Star Trek Beyond stars franchise regulars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin and John Cho, while Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella and Joe Taslim make their debut. It is scheduled for release internationally on 22 July, but only hits SA screens on 26 August 2016.

  1. We going to see Star Trek Beyond a FULL month after the rest of the world? Who at Paramount has been talking to the 007 producers?
