I have a very difficult time remembering what it was like being a seventeen year-old girl because it was a very long time ago and I’m not a woman, but The Edge of Seventeen is the upcoming comedy that looks to remind us all of that awkward phase in our lives.

The official plot synopsis is as follows:

Everyone knows that growing up is hard, and life is no easier for high school junior Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld), who is already at peak awkwardness when her all-star older brother Darian (Blake Jenner) starts dating her best friend Krista (Haley Lu Richardson).

All at once, Nadine feels more alone than ever, until the unexpected friendship of a thoughtful boy (Hayden Szeto) gives her a glimmer of hope that things just might not be so terrible after all.

I wasn’t expecting much when I clicked play – just the same old coming-of-age story we’ve seen so many times before with the same old jokes and the same tired clichés, but I’m honestly surprised by just how funny I found this trailer. The movie looks like it could just be a surprise hit with some genuine laugh-out-loud moments.

What do you think?

The Edge of Summer is due for release in the US on 30 September. Written and directed by Kelly Fremon, it stars Hailee Steinfeld, Blake Jenner, Haley Lu Richardson, Hayden Szeto, Woody Harrelson and Kyra Sedgwick.
