Sci-fi shows on TV are making somewhat of a resurgence and gaining popularity with different networks. And it seems that Legendary TV is wanting to do the same for horror and may have landed a big deal to get this done. The site Bleeding Cool is reporting that the company has landed the rights to adapt several of the literary works of HP Lovecraft into an anthology TV series:

Bleeding Cool recently learned that Legendary TV has been developing the mother-of-all-Lovecraft projects: an anthology series that includes characters, locations and story-lines from sixteen of Lovecraft’s most popular tales including The Call of Cthulhu, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, The Dunwich Horror and many more.

That is a huge deal. HP Lovecraft is one of the most beloved horror writers of all time and his stories are not only well known and well-crafted tales, but come with an almost fanatical fan base too.

Lovecraft’s material has been adapted into many different forms, including board-games, video-games and the odd film – not to mention inspired many a great heavy metal song. However, this will be the first TV series approved by the Lovecraft estate and involves a large percentage of his material, not just one or two books.

Bleeding Cool goes on to say that Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Dan McDermott are onboard to produce the series and that Matthew Francis Wilson will be writing the pilot script. It’s still early days in this development and it could still turn out to be a terrible series, however I would like to believe that when you have stories crafted as well as these, you can’t really go wrong.

If you’re Lovecraft fanatic or even just a fan of good, suspenseful horror this is certainly great news. Are you a Lovecraft fan – which story is your favourite?
