And it’s official! The Flash has found his Iris West! The big screen version of the Flash and Iris West, that is, so just forget all about those folks on the CW for now! (Sorry, Grant Gustin and Candice Patton, you’ll still be our first Flash loves). And as hinted at recently, Kiersey Clemons has been cast in the lead female role opposite Ezra Miller’s scarlet speedster Barry Allen.

Recent reports had tapped Clemons to be at the top of a shortlist of actresses being considered by director Rick Famuyiwa, and it’s now been confirmed by THR that she beat out competitors Lucy Boynton and Rita Ora for the gig. Now, I’m not saying it’s all about who you know, but it has to be pointed out that Clemons also starred  in Dope, Famuyiwa’s breakout indie hit that more than likely landed him the Flash directing gig. I was rather impressed with Clemons in that film, as well as in Bad Neighbours 2, so I’m more than happy for her landing this role.

Justice-League-37

Even more exciting though, after that fantastic Justice League teaser trailer from Comic-Con, I’m really amped to see her interacting with Ezra Miller. He was easily the biggest and most welcome surprise of that trailer reveal, as within the space of just one brief scene, he went from “Eugh. That guy is Barry Allen?” to “Holy crap, this is awesome and I want to spend more time that dude!”.

With these actors and director, and a script treatment penned by The LEGO Movie and 21 Jump Street‘s Phil Lord and Chris Miller, The Flash has rapidly shot up my list of anticipated comic book movies. The Flash is currently scheduled for release on March 16, 2018, which suddenly seems even further away! C’mon, Flash! Run faster!
