Jackie Chan turned 62 years old a few months ago, but it seems there’s no slowing this ass-kicking sexagenarian down. Chan’s latest action comedy film Skiptrace, which sees him teaming up with ex-Jackass lead Johnny Knoxville, opened in China this weekend past and pulled in a fantastic $44 million and change. Add to that the $15.6 million it made from Thursday screenings and it actually had a massive four-day opening haul just short of $60 million.

This is the largest opening of Chan’s nearly more than 40 year plus film career. To put that figure into even further perspective, The Legend of Tarzan was the top worldwide earner overall for the 3-day weekend, and it just, just bested Skiptrace‘s China-only total with $44.7 million. Clearly China still loves Chan dearly.

The film’s massive success could also not have come at a better time for its director Renny Harlin. Once hailed as one of Hollywood’s hottest action directing talents after such hits as Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger, Harlin’s career rapidly plummeted down to B-grade levels after the disastrous Cutthroat Island, which holds the Guinness World Record for Biggest Box Office Flop of All Time (though he did redeem himself briefly with The Long Kiss Goodnight and Deep Blue Sea). The Finnish born Harlin left Hollywood two years ago for Beijing to try his hand at the Chinese film market instead. And it seems that the move has really paid off as Skiptrace marks the biggest opening of his career as well, besting Die Hard 2‘s $33 million 3-day earnings.

So yes, Skiptrace is a massive commercial success, but is it actually any good? After all, Harlin’s last film, the Kellan Lutz starring Hercules: The Legend Begins, was a complete schlockfest. Unfortunately, despite being one of the biggest Jackie Chan fans around, I can’t tell you anything about Skiptrace’s quality, as the press screening we were supposed to have for the movie two weeks ago got cancelled suddenly by the distributors with no new screening date given yet. So all I have for you today is the new trailer for the film which also dropped over the weekend,

Check it out below.

Skiptrace also stars Fan Bingbing, Eric Tsang, Eve Torres, and Michael Wong. It is currently scheduled for release in the US on September 2, 2016, while locally we’ll get it on October 28.
