Sully is the upcoming drama based on the biography of pilot Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger, Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters, who made headlines worldwide back in 2009 when he landed his disabled passenger plane on the Hudson River, saving all 155 passengers on board. The movie also deals with the subsequent investigation into the incident, and the attempts to… sully… Sully’s name.

The official plot synopsis is as follows:

On Thursday, January 15th, 2009, the world witnessed the “Miracle on the Hudson” when Captain Chesley Sullenberger, nicknamed “Sully” & portrayed by Tom Hanks, glided his disabled plane onto the frigid waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. However, even as Sully was being heralded by the public and the media for his unprecedented feat of aviation skill, an investigation was unfolding that threatened to destroy his reputation and his career.

Director Clint Eastwood has a definite eye for inspirational heroic movies and  Tom Hanks looks to be playing Sully with his trademark skill, quiet intensity and dignity. I’m curious to see the story following the eventful landing because while I remember this story from the news, I don’t know what happened afterwards. How about you?

Sully is due for release locally on 9 September. Directed by Clint Eastwood, it stars Tom Hanks, Aaron Eckhart, Laura Linney and Anna Gunn.
