One of the most common complaints levelled at the Emmy Awards is that they tend to reward the same television shows and performers every single year. Voters have their favourites, and they stick with those faves until they really jump the shark.

This year was a bit more progressive than usual (acknowledgement for Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany, finally!), but there’s no question award shows and critics’ bodies have their biases, and rarely look beyond those. Today we want to hear from you – what series deserves more awards love than it gets? What do you consider to be underrated critically?

For James Francis, number one is Bojack Horseman.

Three seasons of the most groundbreaking animated sitcom since The Simpsons and South Park and still not even a nod.

For me, it’s Penny Dreadful.

Narratively a bit hit-and-miss, you think they’d at least have rewarded Eva Green (especially), Timothy Dalton or Rory Kinnear for their powerful performances paired with gorgeously poetic dialogue.

Now it’s your turn to weigh in below.

How Eva Green never got an Emmy nod for that seance scene from Penny Dreadful season 1…

And David Tennant was fantastic in Jessica Jones – you actually felt sympathy for that complete arsehole at one point.

I’m kinda digging Dark Matter at this stage. Nice mindless space action.

Me too, but it’s never going to win an Emmy unless something truly spectacular happens.
