Star Wars has many things going for it. A great sci-fi story, incredible characters, epic space battles and of course, light-saber battles and Jedi’s that use space magic (aka, the Force). However, one thing they do not have, is epic kung-fu action sequences. Which makes sense, considering Jedi’s can simply just move people with their minds.

However, with upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which features a lot less Jedi’s, it looks like we will be bucking that trend. In an interview with Total Film, the films lead heroine, played by Felicity Jones, revealed some interesting information about her intense preparation for her role in the film:

I’ve never done this level of physical preparation for something. Particularly for Rogue One where I was training every day and doing kung fu rehearsals on a daily basis, but that’s part of the reason I wanted to do it, because it was very different from what I’ve done before.

Aah yes, Kung-fu rehearsals. Now from what we have seen in the trailers so far, her character Jyn Erso, prefers the use of a blaster rather than hand to hand combat, but I get a sense that the trailers are hiding something and that we are going to see some epic hand-to-hand battles, as she powers past the Stormtroopers without the assistance of the force to fight them off.

We earlier reported that Disney is not expecting this movie to be as big as Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, but if it is able to blend some epic kung-fu sequences into its epic space war setting, then I think they could have another box office smasher on their way. Or at least a smashing to my wallet as I go back again and again to get more of it.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in U.S. theaters on December 16, 2016, followed by Star Wars: Episode VIII on December 15, 2017, the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology film on May 25, 2018, Star Wars: Episode IX in 2019, and the third Star Wars Anthology film in 2020
