Ever wonder what a Guillermo del Toro animation would look like? Well look no further as we have the answer to your burning question right here. In truth, a del Toro animation project isn’t much of a stretch, as the director’s weird and wonderful creations suit animation just perfectly and itvs perhaps more of a surprise that he hasn’t gone down that avenue sooner.

The trailer for his Dreamwork’s animated series, Trollhunters was dropped at this weekend past’s New York Comic-Con event, along with new art giving us an idea of what we can expect for the series. In fact the entire first episode was apparently screened for the Comic-Con audience in attendance, but unfortunately we won’t be able to share that with you with today. We will have to wait for Netflix to release it to the rest of us on December 23. Well, at least Christmas is sorted.

The idea behind the series is an exciting premise. The stores revolves around two worlds of fantasy that are on a collision course. The discovery by suburban teen Jim Lake Jr. (voiced by Yelchin), of a powerful amulet opens up the battle of the trolls that is happening right under his feet in the troll world called Arcadia.

This looks like a lot of fun. Its not a groundbreaking premise, but the characters seem like a lot of fun and the humour looks like it could work for both adults and kids alike.

The series will have a stellar voice cast with the late Anton Yelchin starring alongside Kelsey Grammer, Ron Perlman, Steven Yeun and Charlie Saxton who seem to all bring a lot to their characters as well. It’s sad to hear the voice of the talented Yelchin again and this will simply just be a reminder of the talent that was lost. It’s also a blow for Netflix and Dreamworks who likely have hopes of more seasons of the series, if it is deemed a success. But I’m sure if they decide to go down that route, they will find someway of continuing the story in a respectful way.

Netflix continues its stellar drive for quality content and they are certainly not stopping at putting out some great series and movies. Trollhunters looks like one to get excited for. At least you have something to distract you during Christmas when the family starts to get on your nerves.

I like that Netflix is working so hard to bring quality content for everyone. And as a bonus Netflix Originals (after ZA launch) are all availible full season on ZA Netrflix.

Not bad for a company that once was about posting rental DVDs.
