Jeph Loeb hints at Marvel's AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. and Netflix series crossover

The main draw of a shared movie universe is right there in its name. Shared. Seeing Captain America and Iron Man kick ass in New York City is cool, but what’s even cooler is if you see resident NY hero Spider-Man swinging by to lend a hand as well. And that’s exactly what the Marvel Cinematic Universe is offering as these characters interact more and more. However, when it comes to Marvel’s TV side of things, things seem to be lacking that interconnectedness.

The oft quoted reason for this is that Marvel’s movies and TV divisions are run separately. Kevin Feige heads the movie side while ultimately it’s his onetime nemesis Ike Perlmutter who pulls the strings on television, and the two men just don’t get along. As a result, the movies acted as if Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel’s once flagship TV series airing on ABC, didn’t exist. Nobody acknowledged that Agent Coulson was still alive, despite the major role he played in The Avengers and the restructuring of S.H.I.E.L.D. isn’t addressed at all.

At least AoS would be affected by/reference the events of the movies. Oer on Marvel’s Netflix shows – Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage – references is all they got though, and not even detailed ones at that. You just hear lines dropped about “the incident” or “the green guy” as if they’re afraid to directly name drop the movies. But what about if AoS or the Netflix shows started addressing each other?

At the recent New York Comic Con, Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb was asked about why this potential crossover hadn’t happened yet, and simply answered with “Fair question. The answer is: Stay tuned.” But the folks at Screenrant decided to press the issue when they spoke to Loeb in a roundtable interview last week, and here’s what he had to say.

I get in trouble every single time I say this, which is #ItsAllConnected. But trust me when I say #ItsAllConnected and that’s about all I can say on it at this time.

The #ItsAllConnected hashtag came from when AoS initially started being affected by the events of the movies. It was Marvel’s little mini campaign to show just how connected their universe was. Of course, the connectedness there mainly involved a couple of second-string cameos (no offense to Jaimie Alexander’s Lady Sif) and watching some movie footage doubling as in-universe news reports. According to Loeb, these are mainly due to some extra limitations facing the TV side of things.

One of the things that’s a challenge and it’s unlike the movie studio because the movie studio is making all of the movies for one place and that’s the theaters. The theater owners don’t get to say well we don’t want Spider-Man to be in Captain America — in that particular case Sony and Marvel had to work that out so that could happen. But in the case of what we do, we have networks to consider and that’s a conversation [for] ABC and Netflix — and now we have shows at Hulu and Freeform and FX [as well]. So it just becomes a question of once it starts, what have we unleashed? But it’s certainly a topic of conversation.

So in other words, they are definitely talking about it and want to do it, but things may get even trickier now that different networks are involved. That’s not to mention how tonally different these shows are. Personally, I would just love to see what the AoS team can do when when they have to come up against Daredevil, or maybe see the Punisher hunting down Ghost Rider. What about you guys? You want the AoS to crossover with the Netflix shows or do you prefer to keep them separate?

  1. I don’t like the idea. Tonally, I think the netflix shows are way different then the others. I would actually prefer if it wasn’t shared.

Jeph Loeb is total liar, along with Ike P., both of them are criminal masterminds behind this. They certainly don’t like movies, just pretend to like them (within or outside of MCU), only tv shows, precisely Netflix ones. Even those excuses about so-called limitations between those two sides are the worst ones ever in history. He will always say it will happen, but ultimately it will never happen. He is poisoning Marvel fans who are bloody, stupid monkeys who blindly follow him while maintaining false promises. There is something bloody wrong about relationship between those two divisions and also within tv division about relationship between tv shows shown on different networks. In the case those characters from shows don’t appear in Avengers 3 and its untitled sequel people will wonder where are they and it could be a sign of further detetiorating relationship of those two, which means that future will certainly be not too much bright. If there must be a relation of those 2, then why not to put forceful unification where there must be mandatory collaboration. In that way, it could potentionally benefit for both without making a conflict. And someone saying that separating them is akin to the comic books, well they don’t have absolutely no idea about that there was much more interactivity between those heroes and villains and that is almost foolish thinking what some people think. It wouldn’t be bad to organise protest to their offices, not staying passively at home or making just blind cheerfulness to them at, for example, comic cons or other places. And those two men only care for bloody money, nothing else.
