Noomi Rapace is a talented actress, but one that arguably hasn’t really had a breakout movie to truly shine in. Yes, she was the lead in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, but many people are still trying to forget that movie rather than look back on it. And while I’m pretty sure this next film Rupture is not going to be a big breakout role either, it will give her more exposure in a leading role which will hopefully only help her cause.

Rupture is directed by Steven Shainberg (Secretary), whose films have typically had quite a dark and brooding atmosphere which should carry over and translate to the horror genre quite well. Rapace will be playing the role of a mother of a boy who is randomly abducted on a highway. She wakes up strapped to an operating table and is forced to undergo a series of terrifying psychological experiments. Sounds like a disturbing enough horror film to tell:

Well, the trailer doesn’t seem to have an awful lot going on for me. It’s certainly got a lot of stylish atmosphere and has some good creepy tension in it, but I can’t really tell what exactly is going on. Which I guess as trailers go is refreshing in not revealing too much, but this doesn’t exactly make me want to go and see the movie either.

The film also stars Peter Stormare, Kerry Bishé, Michael Chiklis, Ari Millen, Lesley Manville, Percy Hynes White and Morgan Kelly and is based off a script by Brian Nelson.

Rupture is due to be released on November 4th this year in the UK, with no US or international releases scheduled as of yet. In other words, if it’s no good, we are probably unlikely to hear of it much further.

The official synopsis is below:

Young mother Renee (Noomi Rapace) has her life thrown into chaos when she is randomly abducted, drugged and taken to a secret lab facility. As her captors traumatically experiment on her, Renee must discover why she was chosen and fight to escape her prison. Rupture is directed by filmmaker Steven Shainberg, of the films Hit Me, Secretary, and Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus previously. The screenplay is written by Brian Nelson (Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night, Devil) and Steven Shainberg. It premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival earlier this year, and also played at Sitges and the L’Etrange Festival Paris. Signature will release Rupture in the UK starting November 4th, but no US release has been set yet.
