A word of warning: If things like logic, causality, and the laws of physics are things hold in high, rigid regard, then you may need to turn away now. For the rest of you, looking for some over the top dumb fun that thumbs its nose at realism, then I’m happy to announce that the trailer for xXx: The Return of Xander Cage is here. This looks like somebody looked at Vin Diesel’s Fast & Furious franchise and thought, “Nah, too grim and realistic for my liking, I need something even more ridiculous!”.

And I am genuinely on board with that. Sometimes you want your action to be grounded and, other times you want Vin Diesel skateboarding on the side of a bus. If you feel for the latter, then watch the trailer below!

The third explosive chapter of the blockbuster franchise that redefined the spy thriller finds extreme athlete turned government operative Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) coming out of self-imposed exile and on a collision course with deadly alpha warrior Xiang and his team in a race to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora’s Box. Recruiting an all-new group of thrill-seeking cohorts, Xander finds himself enmeshed in a deadly conspiracy that points to collusion at the highest levels of world governments. Packed with the series’ signature deadpan wit and bad-ass attitude,  xXx: Return of Xander Cage will raise the bar on extreme action with some of the most mind-blowing stunts to ever be caught on film.

Look, any movie that features both Donnie Yen and the Hound will always get my attention, but c’mon! Vin Diesel just did motocross on the open seas! How can you not want to see how that bit of ludicrousness plays out?! And I guess there’s even an actual story tying all this craziness together, as the trailer seems to reveal that there are some mixed allegiances at play here.

On top of Diesel, Yen and Rory McCann, xXx: Return of Xander Cage also boasts one hell of a fan-favourite support cast like Ruby Rose, Tony Jaa, Samuel L. Jackson, Nina Dobrev, UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping, Bollywood star Deepika Padukone and even 2015 Miss Universe contestant Ariadna Gutierrez.

xXx: Return of Xander Cage is directed by D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, I Am Number Four) and is scheduled for release on 20 January 2017.
