Chris Pratt; Jennifer Lawrence

There are a lot of really good sci-fi films coming out at the moment. The apparently brilliant Arrival is to be released next week and then we’ve also got Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on its way. Another one that I am looking forward to though is Passengers, written by Jon Spaihts who wrote the screenplay for Prometheus and also co-wrote the new Marvel movie Doctor Strange. While that first movie might not get you excited, that second one should because the film features some pretty sharp and witty writing. As a writer though, Spaihts actually got into the business based on the strength of this screenplay for Passengers, so it has quite a reputation already. That it stars two of the hottest actors at the moment in Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence and released incredible footage already, only adds to this hype.

The first trailer for Passengers already had me excited and now a new TV spot has landed for the film:

This TV spot does absolutely nothing to be honest, as its everything the trailer showed only more condensed. What the footage of Passengers that we have seen does well though is not reveal too much while leaving you wanting more. I am still excited about this film and the mystery of why  Lawrence and Pratt’s characters woke up so early. And while some, like Nick, will go purely just to see Pratt be, well a Pratt, I am going to watch hoping that the intrigue in these trailers and the reputation of the script really do live up to all the hype. And its a sci-fi movie – did I really need much convincing?

The film also looks like it may have a love story in their as well, which should make it a little easier to convince the missus though.

The full synopsis is below:

On a routine journey through space to a new home, two passengers, sleeping in suspended animation, are awakened 90 years too early when their ship malfunctions. As Jim (Chris Pratt) and Aurora (Jennifer Lawrence) face living the rest of their lives on board, with every luxury they could ever ask for, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction… until they discover the ship is in grave danger. With the lives of 5000 sleeping passengers at stake, only Jim and Aurora can save them all.

Passengers is directed by Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game) and alongside Pratt and Lawrence, the film also stars Michael Sheen and Laurence Fishburne.

The film is coming out on 21st December 2016. Now this is a Christmas movie I could end up enjoying.

We also have some pics of the movie to tide you over until it releases:
