I remember reading about a dream Guardians of the Galaxy Director James Gunn had a few years ago from his Facebook wall. It was nuts. But then again the director is known to harbour some seriously crazy thoughts; have you seen his first movie Slither?! Well he’s finally released a movie based on that crazy dream and it looks intense.

It would seem that both Hollywood really loves Gunn at the moment. He comes up with this story, something of a baby to him in his own words (a baby that eats people!), manages to get Wolf Creek director Greg McLean on board, gets producer of The Conjuring and Annabelle and a cast of rather well-known actors. Some of these are John Gallagher Jr, Sean Gunn (directorial nepotism at its best!), Michael Rooker (Gunn and Rooker are BFFs), Adria Arjona, John C. McGinley, Tony Goldwyn, David Dastmalchian, Melonie Diaz, and Josh Brener. Wow, not a bad list. I assume that Dr. Cox, I mean John C. McGinley, won’t be adhering to the Hippocratic Oath this time.

Here’s a rather nice synopsis from TIFF

It at first seems to be an ordinary morning on the job for a group of Americans working for a not-for-profit in a modern office building in Colombia. After noticing that their Colombian colleagues have not arrived for work, office worker Mike (John Gallagher, Jr.) spots some unfamiliar security guards entering a large hangar nearby. Moments later, an icy voice comes over the building’s PA system and calmly explains that the employees must kill a certain number of their co-workers — if not, they will be killed themselves. While the boss (Tony Goldwyn) tries to calm the troops, Mike belatedly realizes that something truly sinister is going on — and when metal doors come sliding down on all the building’s exits and windows, it becomes clear that friends and colleagues are now suddenly enemies in a bloody and brutal battle to the death.

That looks, messed up! Kinda like a cross between The PurgeSaw, and, umm, Office Space? I do like the idea of how it takes place in an office. With all the weapons you would find in an actual office (pretty sure my office doesn’t have any handguns… That being said the janitor is way too confident). The Belko Experiment looks like some fun. I don’t imagine it will win any Oscars but I think with the caliber behind it we can expect a tight, tense movie that will have Trevor hiding behind his life-sized Barney.

The Belko Experiment lands on 17 March, a few days after my birthday. Be weary colleagues!
