Man I’ve missed Spider-Man. Which is sort of odd, as we’ve had not one but two entire films featuring Andrew Garfield as the titular web-slinger lately. Thing is, despite a stellar performance as the webhead, Garfield’s Spider-Man just lacked a certain something. A certain sense of youth, exuberance and power used in a manner most responsible.
It doesn’t help either that the last Spider-Man film stunk worse than Batman Forever, and was more concerned with shoehorning in a Sinister Six franchise than an actual cohesive story. It was a tough lesson, but one that film rights holder Sony clearly learnt a lot for, as they entered a new partnership with Disney and Marvel to restore the webhead to the top of the cinematic food chain once again.
We’ve already had one taste of Holland in action, thanks to Captain America: Civil War putting a fresh spin on Spider-Man. But can Holland carry a film on his own? Let’s find out together, after the first proper trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is directed by Jon “Cop Car” Watts and also stars Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Tony Revolori, Bokeem Woodbine and Marisa Tomei. It is scheduled for release on July 7, 2017.
